In the first Masculinidades em Debate, organized by the Masculinidades Observatory.pt/ces, the X -Men Project and the Master in International Relations - FEUC Peace, Safety and Development Studies, we invite Dirk Kriijt, from the University of Utrecht, to talk about “ Masculinities (and femininities) in the Armed Forces, in Guerrilla movements and in Urban Crime: The Cases of Central America (El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua), Colombia, Cuba, and Argentina”.

The comments for this session, which will take place on March 15, at 3 pm, in the Keynes Room of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, will be in the hands of Sofia José Santos (FEUC/CES), José Manuel Pureza (FEUC/CES) and Tatiana Moura (CES).

Over the past few years, Dirk Kruijt has carried out analyzes of civil wars, insurgency and counterinsurgency, using interviews and oral history, emphasizing the role of political leaders, generals and guerrilla commanders. More recently, he devoted himself to the analysis of urban violence. Our guest will share examples of these works, debating topics such as men and women in the Armed Forces, women commanders forgotten in the guerrillas, the military family and gender roles in youth “bands”.
