Pedro Quintela, sociologist, researcher and consultant, is the guest speaker who will address the theme “Investigating creative work: from the main sociological debates to the challenges of research in Portugal”

Pedro Quintela - Biographical Note

He has a degree in Sociology from ISCTE-IUL (2005), a master’s degree in Cities and Urban Cultures from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (2010), where he also received a PhD in Sociology (2022). of Social Studies at the University of Coimbra. As a researcher, he has already been part of some scientific research teams in the field of sociology of culture, highlighting the project “Keep it simple, make it fast! Prolegomena and punk scenes, a path to Portuguese contemporaneity (1977-2012)”, coordinated by Prof. Doctor Paula Guerra (IS/FLUP), and the project “Culture, Training and Citizenship”, coordinated by Prof. Doctor Carlos Fortuna (FEUC-CES). His research interests focus on different domains related to cultural projects and policies; cities and urban cultures; the soundscapes; cultural intermediation and mediation; urban (sub)cultures (in particular, fanzines and other independent publications, namely in the context of punk scenes in Portugal); cultural and creative economy (focusing in particular on labor market issues in the cultural and creative sector, namely in the field of graphic and communication design). He regularly participates in national and international scientific meetings related to these different themes, on which he has also published. At the same time, he develops technical consultancy work, as a permanent staff of Quaternaire Portugal, SA, with a particular focus on the areas of cultural projects and policies, regional and urban strategic planning (focused mainly on the fields of culture, heritage and tourism), and projects and urban policies (especially in the field of urban regeneration), evaluations of projects, organizations and programmes, strategies and plans for the integration and reception of migrant citizens, among other areas of intervention. He currently serves as a consultant-coordinator.
