Our researcher Paula Távora Vítor participated as a speaker at the 18th (Golden Jubilee) World Conference of the International Society of Family Law (ISFL), which was held in Antwerp, Belgium, from 12 to 15 July 2023. The researcher presented a paper entitled "Gestational surrogacy in Portugal: a Tale of Two Mothers" and was also invited to chair the panel "What is a parent?: Surrogacy".
The legal framework of medically assisted procreation techniques and their implications for family structures, as well as the fundamental rights of those involved, are an essential contemporary issue. This communication aimed to bring to the international discussion stage the challenges felt in the Portuguese legal system on the subject of surrogate pregnancy.
Paula Távora Vítor has been a member of the Executive Committee of the International Society of Family Law since 2020, to which she was re-elected on 14 July, and this was the commemorative conference of ISFL's 50th anniversary.
