The Scientific Council is the decision-making body of UCILeR. It is formed by members who are integrated researchers at UCILeR. The Scientific Council elects one of its researchers as President, who in turn chooses another 4 members to form the Coordinating Council.
Coordinating Board
The board is responsible for the overall management of the UCILeR's resources, and is responsible for drawing up activity plans and execution reports.

External Monitoring Committee
In accordance with art. 8(1) of the Statutes, the External Monitoring Committee is "responsible for overseeing the progress of the Unit's activities". The Committee is appointed by the Scientific Board and is currently composed of:
- Tatjana Hörnle (Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law - Germany)
- Eduardo Bittar (USP - University of São Paulo - Brazil)
- Karolina M. Cern (Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU) - Poland)
- Domingos Xavier Viegas (Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics - Portugal)
- Laura Carballo Piñero (University of Vigo, Spain)
