Presentation
The Master in Biodiversity and Plant Biotechnology contemplates the study of biological diversity, from genetic variability to the variety of plant and fungi species and its importance for the balance of ecosystems, as well as for understanding the methodologies that allow to modify plants and fungi to obtain products or processes for specific uses. These areas are becoming increasingly important in scientific and societal terms and are central to decision-making by governmental agents and international organizations.

- Objectivos: No final do curso os alunos terão desenvolvido competências relacionadas com os métodos utilizados na clonagem de plantas, na transformação genética e no melhoramento vegetal. Os alunos ficarão familiarizados com conceitos gerais sobre biodiversidade bem como com os diferentes tipos de ferramentas a utilizar em estudos de monitorização da biodiversidade. As implicações da biotecnologia em termos sociais, económicos e ambientais serão discutidas e interacção entre a aplicação de técnicas de biotecnologia e os seus impactos em termos de biodiversidade discutida. Os estudantes terão a oportunidade de analisar as possibilidades da investigação para a solução de problemas nas áreas da biotecnologia e da biodiversidade. Os alunos serão ensinados e estimulados a desenvolver uma investigação autónoma no âmbito dos temas deste mestrado.

- Saídas Profissionais: Empresas na área da biotecnologia e biorremediação, parques e reservas naturais, empresas de consultadoria na área ambiental, indústria do papel, universidades e instituições do ensino superior, centros de investigação, câmaras municipais, viveiros de plantas.
- Numerus clausus: 15
- Condições de ingresso: Licenciatura em Biologia ou em áreas afins (Ambiente, Bioquímica, Biotecnologia, Ciências Agrárias, Ciências Florestais) em formato Bolonha ou pré-Bolonha ou Bacharelato equivalente a 180 ECTSs. Os detentores de um currículo escolar, científico ou profissional, que seja reconhecido como atestando capacidade para realização deste ciclo de estudos pelo Conselho Científico da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia podem também candidatar-se.
