Center for Mathematics of the University of Coimbra

The Center for Mathematics of the University of Coimbra (CMUC) is a research center that integrates researchers with scientific interests in the area of Mathematics.

CMUC is located in the Mathematics Department of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra. More than sixty PhDs are members of the CMUC, divided into six formally established Research Groups:

  1. Algebra and Combinatorics
  2. Analysis
  3. Numerical Analysis and Optimization
  4. Probabilities and Statistics
  5. Geometry
  6. Algebra, Logic and Topology

CMUC is part of the research units financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundação para Ciência e a Tecnologia). It has been awarded the highest classification by the last four international evaluation panels ("Excellent" in 2002 and 2008, "Exceptional" in 2013, and "Excellent" in 2019).

The center supports a vast array of activities. We highlight the Colloquium on Mathematics and the Seminars of the Research Groups. In addition to the activities of its research groups, CMUC maintains three other transverse activities: Computational Mathematics, History of Mathematics and Popularization of Mathematics.
