Researcher Maria João Feio, affiliated with the Department of Life Sciences (DCV) and MARE, was invited to present the opening plenary lecture at the III Symposium of Limnology of the Semi-Arid (III Limnosa) held in Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brazil, from October 8 to 10.

The symposium, themed “Waters of the semi-arid: dialogues and actions in face of climate change”, brought together scientists, students, and public managers to discuss challenges in aquatic systems in semi-arid regions. In her lecture, titled “European Union Experience in Aquatic Ecosystem Management under Climate Change”, Maria João Feio presented strategies and initiatives used in Europe for conservation and adaptation, with relevance to analogous ecosystems in Brazil.

Her participation highlights the international presence of the University of Coimbra’s scientific activity and the importance of fostering Portugal–Brazil scientific collaboration in water sustainability and aquatic ecology.
