Two projects coordinated by researchers from the Department of Life Sciences of the University of Coimbra (DCV) were awarded in the 5th edition of the Promotion of Scientific Culture initiative, promoted by the UC’s Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (IIIUC).

Professor and researcher Filipa Bessa coordinates the project “ORLA – Citizen Science Festival: Where Science and Community Meet”, to be held in May 2026 at UC’s Figueira da Foz Campus. The festival highlights citizen science as a driver of active participation and social transformation, strengthening the connection between the University, public entities, and local communities.

Researcher and science communicator Miguel Ferreira leads the project “Science Family – Your Science Is Familiar to Me”, a podcast and web series running from September 2025 to July 2026. The initiative collects and shares spontaneous family explanations of science, encouraging dialogue, dismantling misconceptions, and fostering scientific literacy.

Each project received €3,000 in funding, as part of a total of five awarded proposals recognized for their ability to bring science, culture, and society closer together.
