Created at the time of the Pombaline reform and established as a school of science from the outset, the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) currently offers a wide and diverse range of education, covering the fundamental sciences and engineering, without neglecting cross-cutting areas, based on a teaching methodology adapted to contemporary needs. The intense research activity carried out at FCTUC in all these areas of knowledge, together with its international prestige and direct interaction with companies from various sectors operating in the country, are the best guarantee of exciting, high-quality educational programmes.

This education, which encompasses two dozen bachelor's degrees, an integrated master's degree, around five dozen master's degrees and more than two dozen doctorates, is organised around its departments: Architecture, Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.

With a focus on excellence in research, FCTUC is recognised as one of the leading research institutions in Portugal, comprising twenty-four internationally recognised Research and Development (R&D) units, whose activity is reflected in the training offered to students, providing them with access to state-of-the-art laboratories and technology, promoting strong interaction between students, teachers and researchers. Students are encouraged to actively participate in research projects, internships and other extracurricular activities that enrich their educational experience.

The master's and doctoral programmes integrate training aimed at professional practice outside the academic environment, establishing solid connections with the business world and promoting the production of knowledge and technologically advanced solutions.
