The i9kiwi Operational Group, coordinated by researcher Joana Costa from the Centre for Functional Ecology - Science for People & the Planet and Instituto Pedro Nunes and involving researchers and professors from the FLOWer Lab, the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory and the Societies and Environmental Sustainability line of the CFE, are organizing the final congress on "Developing strategies aimed at the sustainability of the kiwi industry through the creation of a value-added product", on December 16th and 17th, 2021, online.

This congress will serve as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and the sharing of technical knowledge obtained during the activities of the Operational Group.

During the Congress, the following topics will be addressed:

Session 1: Pollinators and pollination in kiwi and other fruit trees

Session 2: Social and economic dimensions in agroecosystems

Session 3: Multifactorial characterization of actinide varieties and pollen application

Session 4: Diseases associated with the production of kiwi fruit and Innovative solutions to combat Psa

Session 5: Innovation and creation of a value-added product

The five topics will be initially presented by an expert, followed by lectures associated with the various results and activities of the i9kiwi.

I9Kiwi aims to improve Portugal's competitiveness in the kiwi industry, focusing exclusively on primary production activities in the sector through various types of innovation, namely of products and processes. The I9Kiwi gathers the skills necessary to fill evident gaps in the phytosanitary sector and in the quality and diversity of cultivars and pollen, associated with high production costs.
