Following the work carried out within the scope of EGURALT Project, SerQ – Forest Innovation and Competences Centre and University of Coimbra organize a Workshop on the theme “Wood construction: Challenges and opportunities”.

The event will take place at the facilities of the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Coimbra, on March 27 and 28, 2023.


The Workshop is addressed to the entire construction sector, namely companies, service providers, as well as decision makers and the academic community. It is also intended that the workshop provide space for networking between all participants, allowing the exchange of knowledge for a more resilient sector.

This Workshop is a crucial opportunity to know better the work carried out by national and international renowned specialists on the use of wood in the construction sector. This sector has been witnessing a constant change of paradigm, contributing to the global challenge of combating climate change. Several measures have been implemented over the World for a more sustainable construction, considering the reduction of carbon emissions and the use of natural and sustainable raw materials. In this sense, wood occupies a privileged positioned among the remaining materials used in construction.

The Workshop will address several topics, including: the role of wood in the architecture, design issues, detailing and durability of timber structures, as well as the most recent innovations and developments in the sector both nationally and internationally.. The event will also have a set of Reference Case Presentation Sessions on wooden structures. Finally, a session dedicated to EGURALT project will take place, where the main results obtained during the Project’s development period will be presented.
