The Centre for Mathematics of the University of Coimbra (CMUC) is a research unit with interests in pure and applied mathematics, actively involved in research as well as in postgraduate education. CMUC facilities are located in the Department of Mathematics of the University of Coimbra. CMUC hosts more than sixty researchers, currently organized in six research groups:

  1. Algebra and Combinatorics
  2. Analysis
  3. Numerical Analysis and Optimization
  4. Probability and Statistics
  5. Geometry
  6. Algebra, Logic and Topology

CMUC is a research unit funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. It has been awarded the highest classification by the last four international evaluation panels ("Excellent" in 2002 and 2008, "Exceptional" in 2013, and "Excellent" in 2019).

CMUC organizes regular seminars within the activities of the research groups and a colloquium. Besides these research groups, CMUC has three transverse Thematic Lines of activities, on Computational Mathematics, Outreach and Popularization of Mathematics, and History of Mathematics.
