Nuno Monteiro Vaz was born in Tortosendo, in the municipality of Covilhã, in 1967. He obtained a degree in Geology in 1989 from the University of Coimbra, a Master's degree from the University of Lisbon in the area of Geophysical Sciences, variant Internal Geophysics, in 1995, and a PhD from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro in 2011, where he defended his thesis “Palynostratigraphy of the Ordovician-Silurian Sequence of the Amêndoa-Mação syncline”.
Assistant Professor at the Geology Department of the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, where he is responsible for the “Evolution and Biodiversity”, “Stratigraphy and Paleontology” and “Mineral and Energy Resources” curricular units of the Biology and Biology and Geology courses.
He is active in the fields of Stratigraphy, Paleontology, Micropaleontology and Paleopalynology of the Paleozoic, with an interest in the study of the Ordovician and Silurian Sequences of Portuguese territory.
Since 2014, he has been responsible at UTAD for the Geosciences Center of the University of Coimbra, where he is also a vice-director.
