The IGAEDIS – From Civitas Igaeditanorum to Egitania has led to the discovery of new archaeological findings in Idanha-a-Velha, including the ruins of one of the main entrances to ancient Egitania and a baptistery that is the oldest known in the Iberian Peninsula.

Follow the progress of this research, coordinated by Pedro C. Carvalho, on the Historical Village of Idanha-a-Velha, and its heritage and tourism aspects. The research team includes, among others, CEIS20 researchers Adolfo Fernandez, Armando Redentor, João C. Teixeira, João Tereso, Lídia Fernandes, Ricardo Costeira da Silva and Sofia Lacerda.

The website offers an overview of the Historical Village of Idanha-a-Velha in the light of scientific research carried out by the University of Coimbra and the NOVA University of Lisbon, as part of the project “The Historical Village of Idanha-a-Velha: city, territory and population in Antiquity (1st century BC-12th century AD)”, funded by FCT until 2024. The project is developed through a partnership between UCoimbra, NOVA, the Municipality of Idanha-a-Nova and the Regional Directorate for Culture – Centre Region.
