Prize awarded to book with chapter by José Oliveira Martins

The Outstanding Multi-Author Publication Award 2022, presented by the American Society for Music Theory, was recently awarded to the book The Routledge Companion to Music Theory Pedagogy, edited by Leigh Van Handel, which features a chapter by José Oliveira Martins, integrated researcher and Scientific Coordinator of CEIS20. This collective publication brings together a wide range of methodological, conceptual and practical research adapted to changing pedagogical environments. José Oliveira Martins’s chapter “Twentieth-Century Polymodality: Scalar Layering, Chromatic Mismatch, and Symmetry” proposes an innovative and pedagogically intuitive concept for the integration of different compositional layers in 20th century music.
