As part of the interdisciplinary approach and work that CEIS20 - UC has developed, Omar Costa Hamido (integrated researcher in Group 4 – Artistic Currents and Intellectual Movements) has been awarded a European Postdoctoral Fellowship in the framework of the prestigious Marie Sklodowska-Curie programmes, with CEIS20 - UC as host institution and José Oliveira Martins as supervisor.

His project, IIMPAQCT (Integrated Interdisciplinary Music Practice And Quantum Computing Technologies), is an artistic and technological research project that aims to establish the use of quantum computing as a relevant tool for the creative and investigative practice of artists within and beyond the academia.

The integration of quantum computing in artistic practice, particularly in musical composition, was already the subject of Omar Costa Hamido's doctoral thesis, which the new IIMPAQCT project aims to develop: i) programming new technological tools, with examples and documentation;; ii) implementing new applications in artistic experimentation processes, perhaps designing new conceptual approaches and artistic models of creation; iii) building new continuous and advanced training opportunities to create a community of artists, researchers and scientists interested in exploring and integrating art and science with this emerging technology in an interdisciplinary approach.

It is hoped that this project will also involve other departments/research centres at the University of Coimbra. The work plan starts on 1 June 2023 and will continue for the next 2 years. You can follow the progress via the newsletter at quantumland.art.
