The Alberto Sampaio History Prize, established by the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, the municipalities of Braga, Guimarães and Vila Nova de Famalicão and the Martins Sarmento Society, aims to honour this leading figure in Portuguese historiography and to encourage historical study and research in Portugal. The prize, worth 6,000 euros, is financed in equal parts by the municipalities of Braga, Guimarães and Vila Nova de Famalicão.

The prize is intended to reward a historical research study in the field of Portuguese economic and social history, or in other historiographical fields related to the legacy of Alberto Sampaio.

The prize, worth €6,000, is awarded annually by a jury of academics from Portuguese universities appointed by the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.

The competing studies must be sent in PDF format to geral@acad-ciencias.pt by 31 May 2024. They may be the result of or based on academic work, with modifications appropriate to the objectives of the competition, and must include a short text explaining their relationship to the objectives of the prize and to the work of Alberto Sampaio.
