The Alberto Sampaio History Prize, established by the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, the municipalities of Braga, Guimarães and Vila Nova de Famalicão, and by the Martins Sarmento Society, aims to pay tribute to this leading figure in Portuguese historiography and to encourage the study and research of history in Portugal.
The prize, worth 6,000 euros, is financed in equal parts by the municipalities of Braga, Guimarães and Vila Nova de Famalicão.
