Milena Dragicevic Šešic (University of Belgrade), our next guest at the Axes of Interdisciplinary KnowledgeKeynote Series of the Doctorate in Contemporary Studies (DEC), will give a talk on “Cultural Policies at a Crossroads. Experiments in solidarity”.

This session will be held in English and is exclusively in-person.

Milena Dragicevic Šešic is Professor Emerita of Cultural Policy and Management, Cultural Studies and Media Studies at the University of Arts, Belgrade, Serbia. Founder of the UNESCO Chair in Interculturalism, Arts Management and Mediation, she has travelled the world working and writing on cultural policy and the political and ethical values that underpin it. Now, at a time when the global challenge of sustainability stresses the urgency of a paradigm shift, we ask her: what kind of cultural policies should we aim for? Is it possible to think about post-capitalist cultural policies and, if so, what exactly is desirable about them? We will discuss competition, solidarity and learn about experiments with different models of cultural action. Above all, we will speculate on what civic imagination can spur amidst a “permacrisis” [permanent crisis].
