Synopsis
The Cistellaria is a typical comedy of recognition, with all the usual elements of the genre: a premarital rape, the exposure of a girl, a thwarted love and the inevitable scene of the recognition that will allow the happy ending. The play is named after a basket, a key element in the outcome of the story. It was customary for parents who, for some reason, abandoned their children after birth, to leave a basket with the child containing some objects so that, in case the child is collected and manages to survive, they could be evidence for recognition and thus allow the child to find his/her biological family. That is exactly what happens in this comedy.
