The main unique feature of the programme is its holistic approach to Food Studies, centred on the Humanities. History, Cultures, Literature and Arts are the pillars of this humanistic knowledge, which interacts with the disciplinary perspectives of Tourism, Anthropology, Sociology, Communication and Medicine. All these areas are covered by a permanent teaching staff and by guest experts, both national and international.

The main objective of the research carried out is to understand how individuals and societies, from prehistory to the present day, relate to food from a sociocultural, aesthetic, communicational, ethical, religious and medical point of view, at all stages.

These areas of inquiry are essential for answering a set of key questions in contemporary discourse on Heritage, Gastronomy, Healthy & Sustainable Food, Health, Leisure & Well-being.
