Since ancient times, the advancement of knowledge has been achieved through debate and the sharing of ideas. From classical philosophical schools to modern university colloquiums, it is through the argumentative confrontation of ideas and methodologies of exploration that thought advances and paradigms of knowledge are cemented. The series of debates entitled ‘Intersections: 6 dialogues to understand who we are’, taking place at the University of Coimbra and promoted by a joint organisation between the FPCEUC, the Centre for Research in Neuropsychology and Cognitive-Behavioural Interventions (CINEICC), the Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies (CECH) and the Laboratory of Rationality and Applied Ethics (LREA), aims to be part of this academic tradition: not as a place of closed answers, but as a shared territory of demanding, and in some cases provocative, questions, where complexity is not avoided but assumed as a necessary condition for rigorous knowledge.

In an era marked by specialisation and fragmentation of knowledge, the Intersection series proposes a gesture of rapprochement between scientific fields. It is aimed not only at the academic community, but also at professionals and anyone interested in thinking about humanity beyond rigid disciplinary boundaries, based on the recognition that scientific knowledge is a human heritage and, therefore, academia must share with and be open to contributions from civil society. More than a series of debates, it is an invitation to intellectual curiosity, informed questioning, and the pleasure and wonder that result when we think together. This initiative is free to attend for anyone interested.
