Restricted Access Items

Available

The BGUC Restricted Access Items describe a set of bibliographical specimens of high bibliographical and patrimonial value. It consists of manuscripts, incunabula and printed matter from the 16th century to the 18th century.

This collection was started before the construction of the current building, and we know that the Restricted Access Items were deposited in the Joanina Library prior to being transferred to the new building in 1957-1958. This collection, which is constantly being updated, contains works that are considered particularly rare and precious ("R" and "Cofre" shelfmarks), simply valuable ("RB" shelfmark) or mostly illustrated ("RC" shelfmark). Recently, important collections of old periodicals from Coimbra were incorporated into the Restricted Access Items.
