Eugénio de Castro's Archive

Eugénio de Castro was born in 1869 and died in 1944. In 1990, a set of correspondence was handed over to the General Library, as a deposit, by Eugénio de Castro's heirs; a second entry took place in February 1992.

The Archive consists of correspondence (letters, postcards, cards, telegrams and letters) received by Eugénio de Castro, who was a poet and professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Coimbra. The documents concern or arise from his literary, pedagogical, scientific, historical and genealogical research activities, and also from his work as a member of various scientific and cultural associations. It also includes documentation relating to his duties as Director of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities [Faculdade de Letras], namely correspondence regarding the acquisition of the private library and personal papers of Carolina Michaëlis and Joaquim de Vasconcelos, as well as correspondence relating to distinctions and titles awarded to him. It consists of 3074 documents.
