Library of Doctor Luís de Albuquerque
Director of BGUC from 1978 to 1987, Luís Guilherme Mendonça de Albuquerque, professor at the university of Coimbra, distinguished mathematician and distinguished researcher in cartography and nautical science, produced more than three dozen works on the History of the Portuguese Discoveries, in addition to hundreds of articles.
His literary estate, consisting of books, periodical publications and numerous printed and handwritten documentation, was bequeathed to BGUC by testamentary disposition and is deposited in a dedicated room, with the name of the donor.

Luís de Albuquerque was born in 1917 and died in 1992. He was a brilliant Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra, and he also collaborated with Faculty of Arts and Humanities. He was Director of the General Library between 1978 and 1987, to whom he donated his Personal Library composed of monographs, periodicals and manuscripts. The Collection includes publications from a wide range of areas, but predominantly from Exact Sciences and History.
