Portuguese Proficiency Test for Applicants to Master's Degrees in Teaching

The assessment of the applications to these Master’s Degrees comprises a Portuguese Proficiency Test and an Interview besides the Analysis of the Applicants' Curricula, in accordance with what is provided for in Decree Law no. 79/2014 of 14th May which approves the legal framework for teaching qualifications in pre-school, basic and secondary education (check the subsequent amendments).

Applicants to these courses must be aware that these Proficiency Tests will be independent of the applications and will be carried out according to the undermentioned dates.

The proficiency test is mandatory for ALL applicants:
It is not necessary to register in order to sit the Test. Applicants must present themselves to sit the test if their application to one of the Master’s Degree Courses in Teaching offered by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Sciences and Technology and Faculty of Sport Science and Physical Education has not been invalidated by the end of the day preceding the scheduled date.
Not attending the Test is reason for exclusion.
The written test is eliminatory, that is, if applicants to the Master’s Degrees in Teaching do not successfully accomplish the written part of the test (a grade of 10 out of 20), they will not attend the speaking test.
Applicants who successfully accomplished this Proficiency Test in the previous year at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities are exempt from sitting it again.
Tests accomplished at other Higher Education Institutions will not be acepted.
 
Content of the written and speaking tests:
Universal themes concerning (national and/or international) current topics or themes that are relevant in an academic context.
Different text genres (argumentative, expository text).
 
Assessment items of the written and speaking tests:
Textual cohesion and coherence
Pragmatic competence
Grammatical correctness
Lexical accuracy
 
Length of the Tests:
Written test: 1h:30min.
Speaking test: 15min.
