Frequently Asked Questions
Where to find updated information ?
The general information about applications to the UC is published on this webpage or at a link available on this webpage. The specific information concerning an application to a course/cycle of studies is at the online platform InforEstudante.
At InforEstudante it is possible to submit the application, receive notifications of each phase of the procedure as well as notifications of any changes that may occur, check the lists of applicants admitted and details about the results. If you are Placed/Admitted, then InforEstudante will also be the platform at which your entire academic pathway as a UC Student takes place, from your enrolment to the issuance of your diploma.
COVID-19 Questions
The University of Coimbra is attentive, and has proved that it is prepared to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic situation by having ensured the regular services in the last years. Therefore, we ask all applicants to complete their applications within the established deadlines so that we can ensure that all the application processes take place in a normal manner, in spite of the current worldwide circumstances.
Yes. Applications to the University of Coimbra take place as expected, in the same way and with the same calendars, because at the UC the application procedure is undertaken by means of the online platform InforEstudante, including the submission of electronic copies of all the necessary documents.
The University is prepared to receive applications from any place in the world and manage them by adopting remote work (UC personnel working outside the UC facilities using information technologies to perform their work).
No, you do not. The UC prioritises the dematerialisation of procedures. Therefore, during the application all the information is submitted by means of the online platform. This is even more relevant in a situation like the one that happened, i.e., a pandemic, taking into account that the circulation of paper documents becomes strongly conditioned.
General Questions
The applications are carried out by means of the IT Platform InforEstudante that is available at www.uc.pt/go/inforestudante. The access is done by registering on the Platform according to the information available at the main webpage:
- Under “New User?” click “Link” and on the next webpage select the button “Apply” under “Degree Application”.
- If you are, or were, an UC Student, sign in as usual with your student number and the access key, and on the left side menu click under “Applications”.
- If you do not remember your credentials, then under “Access” click “Link” and follow the instructions to recover your password.
When logged in at InforEstudante, select the link “ Help” at the top of all webpages and select the help article related to "Application to the UC". You may also get help by means of the communication channels of the Academic Services available at How to apply to the University of Coimbra.
Yes. The University of Coimbra allows conditional applications when the Students do not collect all the documents until the end of the application deadline. The conditional application is carried out by indication of the applicant.
If students do not collect the required documents or do not ascertain the completion of the course until the date indicated at InforEstudante, they may carry over their application into the subsequent phase if there is one. Only the applicants who submit the missing documents within the deadline mentioned at InforEstudante can be included on the final seriation list.
Applicants must always check the Opening Notice of the course for which they are applying in order to become aware of all the conditions.
After confirming all the inserted information, including the attached documents, the application must be “Sealed”. After doing this, the fee amount is generated and the application is available to be analysed by the academic services only after the payment is made.
At the UC, the application fee is €50. At the end of the application procedure all the information concerning the payment will be generated, including the ATM References to accomplish the payment. (Multibanco [MB] - is the portuguese ATM system)
Besides MB, there is also the possibility of using other means, such as Paypal or credit card. The communication of the payment to the UC is immediate, unless there is an exceptional technical situation.
If your application status is marked as “Incomplete” it means it has not been “Sealed” yet. Therefore, it is not finished. Please verify whether a mandatory field is not filled in or whether a document needs to be attached, and click the link that indicates to seal. Only then the application is complete.
If your application status is marked “Unpaid” it means the payment of the fee has not been accomplished. Payments by electronic means (Paypal, ATM Reference or Credit card) tend to be immediately taken at InforEstudante, but a delay may happen due to the communication between information systems. If it takes more than one day, please contact us by means of the online form www.uc.pt/en/academicos
Important: The applications with this status are not carried over into the subsequent phase of appraisal.
The result on the provisional seriation list is published at InforEstudante, usually on the date scheduled in the Applications Calendar of each Faculty.
If the result on the provisional list is “Not-Placed/Not-Admitted”, and you think that you have a reason to complain about the appraisal, you may exercise this right within the deadline established on the list (usually it is 10 working days) by submitting a complaint request concerning application. Therefore, you have to access InforEstudante within the deadline and at “Academic Service » Requests” choose that type of request.
The application procedure includes appraisals by using rules and criteria that define a ranking that is subject to places. Therefore, it is very important, and required by national law, that applicants may comment on the result subsequent to this procedure.
The provisional list provides all those involved with the result for an application stage - course - access system and the deadline for them to give their opinion (hearing of interested parties in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Code). There may be situations in which the hearing of interested parties may be waived, and the applicants will be informed of such waivers.
The final list is the final list resulting from the previous list after consideration of any complaints and, if they are justified, includes the changes resulting from these situations.
No. You just need to click the option that enables your application to be carried over into the next phase. The application will be carried over as it is, including the appraisal and will be seriated/sorted along with the applications from the new phase.
You must wait for and keep an eye on InforEstudante notifications of the deadlines and guidelines on how to enrol and register at the UC. Do not exceed the established deadline because your place will be carried over into the next phase or applicant.
Immediately after registering at the UC, the multipurpose certificate will be available free of charges, which confirms the registration for the academic year and gives information about the student insurance.
If you are a foreign student, you may also obtain the “Acceptance Letter”.
