On March 7, 2025, between 2:15 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., in the DEM/FCTUC auditorium and online. An event organized by CEIF/ADAI.

This event, in a hybrid format, will bring together leading experts and decision-makers from various entities with relevant intervention in the field of rural fires, with the aim of debating and promoting the improvement of evacuation processes in rural fire scenarios, a topic of extreme importance for civil protection in Portugal.

The round table “Leave or Stay?”, promoted by CEIF/ADAI, will focus on aspects related to evacuation processes in rural fire scenarios. To this end, we have brought together a range of experts with different perspectives. After the framing session, there will be two periods of round table debate, which will essentially seek to answer the following questions:

  1. Are or should citizens be legally obliged to leave their homes when told to do so by the authorities? Is there a need for additional legislation to clarify this issue?
  2. How can evacuation procedures be streamlined, in terms of removing people from their homes, taking into account the safeguarding of human life and the need to protect property?

The audience attending the debate will be able to send us their suggestions in writing, in a channel to be announced later. Some of the questions asked in person or online will be answered during the session, whenever time allows.

Most of the questions or suggestions made by the public will be taken into account in the report that will be drawn up at the end of the session.
